From Ancient Greek παροξύτονος (paroksutonos, “paroxytone”), from παρά (para, “beyond, next to”) + ὀξύτονος (oksutonos, “oxytone”), from ὀξύς (oksus, “sharp, acute”) + τόνος (tonos, “pitch, accent”).
